In the past, I have posted about the monthly living expenses of self-employed workers.

■ Introduction I work from home (maximum once a week), and the company provides me with lunch on weekdays. So out…
As you can see, the cost of maintenance is not high, but I tried to reduce fixed expenses by changing the plan to make up for the cost of purchasing the Galaxy Watch 5.
In addition, to increase the usability of the Watch 5 Bluetooth model, I signed up for YouTube Premium. 윤과장의 소소한 일상 이야기
The two-year contract is over, but I still don’t have the desire to buy a new phone (it’s not that I don’t have one), so I changed to a budget plan.
The most famous place was KT M Mobile, so when I went to the website, they said that I could apply for a SIM on the Internet and open it myself.
*caution*
If you are using a prepaid T-money transportation card with Samsung Pay, you must first get a refund and replace the SIM. It seems that the charged amount does not remain when changing the SIM. It seems that there is no way to get a refund because I have already discarded the SIM after replacing it, but if there is a SIM, it is said that you can apply for a refund by connecting to Wi-Fi after reinstalling the SIM.
■ Reasons for choosing the rate plan to change
First, the existing KT rate plan was as follows.
It was a 5G Y slim rate plan, but I was paying about 60,900 won for communication fees because I was paying 5,900 won for TVing regular payment with my mobile phone.
(For reference, I had been using it before the TVing fee went up, so the price didn’t go up, but I know that the same ticket is currently 7,900 won)
This 5G Y Slim rate plan was a rate plan that could be used unlimitedly with a speed limit of 1 Mbps and basic 10 gigabytes of data.
However, since I have been at home for a long time, I usually use my home Wi-Fi, so I usually have a lot of data left, and sometimes 1Mbps, which is said to be available when I use up 10 gigabytes, is so slow that I can’t even search the Internet, so I think I’d rather not use it.
The plan to change to Go is the following rate plan of KT M Mobile.
When choosing a plan, be sure to check whether it is a 5G plan or an LTE plan.
Rate plan name, mobile data (5G), voice call (minutes), text messages (cases), rate
Even if you use more than 10 GB, you hardly use up to 15 GB, so it is judged that it does not matter even if it is not unlimited.
(Also, the red bus I often ride has Wi-Fi)
Save 34,900 won excluding teabing!
Here, while purchasing the Galaxy Watch 5 this time, I paid for YouTube premium to listen to music even when I do not have a mobile phone (for using the offline storage function).
It’s free for 3 months, but after that it’s 10,500 won, so I decided to just pay. (Not a combined product)
For reference, YouTube Premium is more expensive if you pay with an iPhone. The above price is for Android or internet payment.
Because it has an offline storage function, you can save the videos you want to watch at home and watch them while moving, so you can listen to some videos or music even if you don’t have enough mobile data.
Previously: KRW 55,000 + (Tving) KRW 5,900 = KRW 60,900
Change: KRW 21,900 + (YouTube) KRW 10,500 + (TVing) KRW 5,900 = KRW 38,300
(Again, it is not an OTT combined product)
Therefore, a savings of 22,600 won per month!
It’s a bit small in terms of price, but I’m satisfied with the decision considering the usability of the watch.
Also, since I plan to use it like this for about a year, I have earned the price of the watch.
■ Purchase SIM
The SIM was purchased from an internet direct mall.
KT M Mobile Direct Mall
Korea’s No. 1 Affordable Phone
When you go to the website, it looks like you can buy it at open markets and convenience stores/marts, but when you actually search for purchase points, you can’t find a place with a remaining quantity. Therefore, it is convenient to just order online.
The homepage was not friendly, so it seemed that it did not provide basic functions provided by shopping malls, such as order cancellation and delivery inquiry. (Maybe I didn’t find it because I didn’t look closely) Also, since it’s a thrifty plan company, the connection to the customer center may not be smooth. That’s why it’s better to be careful when ordering.
There are general SIM and NFC SIM. If you plan to use mobile NFC like T-money, you must purchase an NFC SIM.
Normal SIM is 6,600 won, and NFC SIM is 8,800 won.
I chose an NFC SIM.
Next, choose a quantity.
I only have one cell phone, so…
Next, you can select the delivery type, but you can only select courier without a separate option. ha ha ha.
I ordered over the weekend, it was shipped on Monday (yesterday), and it arrived on Tuesday (today).
After that, enter the delivery address and recipient information, and agree to the collection and use of personal information.
(of course you have to pay)
It doesn’t come packaged very well, but because it’s flat, it comes packaged in plastic wrappers.
A thin pin is required to remove the SIM card in the existing mobile phone, but there is no need to worry too much as the pin is attached inside the guide.
■ Self-opening
Self-opening is possible through the link below.
Select subscription conditions | KT M Mobile Official Direct Mall
Since the opening type is SIM, you can select ‘Self-opening (with SIM)’, and then select the subscription type.
There are two types of subscription: ‘number portability’ and ‘new signup’. In the case of changing an existing telecommunications company like me, ‘number portability’ is all.
‘Number porting’ does not mean that my cell phone number is changed!
For reference, number portability is only available from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm, and opening is not possible on Sundays and public holidays such as New Year’s Day, Lunar New Year’s Day, and Chuseok.
New registrations are available from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
As you enter identity verification, SIM information verification, identification card verification, subscription application information, and payment information, the amount to be paid by the existing telecommunications company starts pouring in as text messages.
A cancellation letter arrives,
Signup texts are also coming.
There is also a guide video that is kinder than me. ha ha ha.
Oh, let’s not refresh the screen just because loading is long during the opening process.
When I tried it, there are cases where loading takes a little longer for Koreans to wait, but if you wait patiently, it will be processed.
In the middle, I have to call ARS about the cancellation of the previous carrier, but I hastily closed the window, and the number where I should call was lost.
I stumbled a little there, but if you scroll up without leaving the screen, there is a button to look up the number at the top right corner.
(It’s late now, so it’s impossible to capture the related screen, but if I remember later, I’ll update it during the day. For reference, KT was 1588-2935)
■ Replace SIM
When the opening was completed, communication was cut off from the existing mobile phone.
Remove the existing SIM with the pin delivered with the SIM and replace it with the newly delivered SIM.
You may have to turn your phone off and on 2-3 times after it is inserted.
I turned it off and on twice.
■ Concluding
Before changing the rate plan, I checked once again because I thought I had heard that changing the rate plan in the middle of the month could result in a charge bomb.
This means that when the data, voice, and text provided by the existing rate plan are calculated on a pro-rata basis as of today, if the usage amount is exceeded, more charges may be incurred.
For example, if today is the 15th out of 30 days and my rate plan is 10 GB, if you have used more than 5 GB by prorated today, you will be charged a little more.
Until today, the 15th day, I used 2.5 gigabytes out of 10 gigabytes, so there was no additional charge, and voice and text messages were unlimited, so they were not included in the work calculation.
But since it’s cumbersome to calculate, people often talk on the Internet to change it on the 1st.
I didn’t know, so I called the KT customer center to check. ha ha ha…
